Games help to be multitasking

A study conducted in the U.S. shows that people who play first person shooter titles can perform multiple tasks easier than those who do not play.

The study divided a group of young students into two groups: a control group, who did the tests Multi-Attribute Task Battery twice, without having ever played, and a second group who took the test before playing and repeated after ten weeks playing PS3.
The group of students who had been playing  had better results than the control group. "Playing such games enhances the ability to distribute visual attention in space and pay attention to details," said the authors of a study conducted at the University of California.

Valve improves Games for Linux

The game Left 4 Dead 2 had a 14% higher performance on a Linux system compared to a Windows system with the same hardware configuration.

The game was tested on a machine with an Intel Core i7 3930k, Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 and 32 GB of RAM. In the system with Ubuntu 12 and Open GL, the game has a performance of 315 FPS, while the Windows 7 machine was up by 270.6 FPS.
The research team concluded that the Valve Open GL is more efficient to process data than Direct3D technology. The Linux Valve team will still have to battle a lot, especially to get work with the graphics card manufacturers such as AMD or Nvidia.

These tests are published days after the CEO of Valve have stated that Windows 8 was a disaster and that the company would turn over to Linux.

Minecraft Snapshot Week 24

So last week snapshot doesn't any news, it was only to fix some bugs...
But this week we have more great news

  • Allowed those connected to a player's LAN network to join SP games
    • The player can now use “/publish” to open your single-player game for LAN players to join. This is still very much work in progress, so it lacks some necessary settings such as what game mode players will get, and if they should be able to use cheats or not. Also, the “/publish” command is temporary, since the player can not even access it if they have not enabled cheats (LAN connections will be GUI based in the future)
    • Added the /tp command from multiplayer to singleplayer, allowing teleporting between players.
  • The player can now place Levers on the underside of blocks, upside-down[2]
  • Improved Ender Chests
    • Now has an inventory per player and not per world. Also, knocking down the chest will break it into 8 obsidian, unless the player has Silk Touch
  • Updated language files
    • End Portal Frames now have a tooltip
  • The texture pack folder button now works on Mac.
  • A lot of smaller changes and fixes.

Minecraft - My favourite game

To iniciate my blog I will bring for my first review the game "Minecraft"

Minecraft is a rpg about placing cubes, focused on building and creativity. You have two game modes, survival and creative. As the name says, on the first one you need to survive, you have to search for resources, as food, wood and other blocks, on the middle of the desert, florest, swamp, caves, etc. On the creative mode you have unlimited resources, and also the ability to fly.

Not everything its easy, on survival not only you need to maintain your health and hunger, but also you need to survive against monsters, like, zombies, skeletons, creepers, and more...

But if you think that be alone in a unlimited world its sad you have the option to play it online with your friends and make an awesome explorer adventure, and survive together.

The game was designed by Marcus (Notch) Person, and developed by mojang. To play the you only need to create an account and download the minecraft.exe. You can also buy the game to have some extra options, like play on premium servers or change your skin.

Now some ingame pictures:

Don't judge the game by its graphics.
