Valve improves Games for Linux

The game Left 4 Dead 2 had a 14% higher performance on a Linux system compared to a Windows system with the same hardware configuration.

The game was tested on a machine with an Intel Core i7 3930k, Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 and 32 GB of RAM. In the system with Ubuntu 12 and Open GL, the game has a performance of 315 FPS, while the Windows 7 machine was up by 270.6 FPS.
The research team concluded that the Valve Open GL is more efficient to process data than Direct3D technology. The Linux Valve team will still have to battle a lot, especially to get work with the graphics card manufacturers such as AMD or Nvidia.

These tests are published days after the CEO of Valve have stated that Windows 8 was a disaster and that the company would turn over to Linux.
